As Christmas approaches we are pleased to report on the groundbreaking Accentuate programme, which launched at the beginning of the month and will be delivered by Screen South - see below for more details.Also in this issue we have news of more wins and selections from the region's film makers, including Andrew Lang' Sons of Cuba which won in Sheffield in November, Hampshire-based writer/director Lorne Guy who has just triumphed at Sony's Make A Movie competition, Bruce Webb's win in sunny Monte Carlo and Rob Lemkin, who has been selected to compete at the Sundance Festival in January next year - all have been supported by Screen South. Accentuate, the London 2012 legacy project for the South East was launched on 3rd December at the iconic Brighton Dome. This proved a great opportunity to find out more about this exciting Screen South-led programme and served as a showcase for the region's talent. We are delighted to report that Rob Lemkin's project Enemies of The People has been selected to compete at the forthcoming Sundance Film Festival, which runs from 21st January. Co-directed with Thet Sambath, the film received completion and mentoring support from Screen South. Click here to find out more.
Sons of Cuba continues its winning streak and most recently won the Youth Jury Award at the Sheffield Documentary Film Festival last month. This adds to the titles the film won in LA and Rome in October. Hampshire-based director Andrew Lang received production and completion support from Screen South. Isle of Wight writer/director Bruce Webb was in celebratory mood earlier this month when his feature debut The Be All and End All was awarded Best Debut Feature at the Monaco Comedy Film Festival. Screen South-supported Bruce secured marketing support towards the film earlier this year. Click here to find out more about this promising debut.
Young People between 13 and 19 are being encouraged to enter their films in the First Light Awards 2010, which is run in association with BAFTA. The films will be assessed by a panel of BAFTA judges and the winner will have their award presented to them during the star-studded ceremony in March, phew! Lorne Guy, the driving force behind Winchester-based Good Guys Productions, has just won Sony's Make a Movie competition. The national contest aimed to find feature projects good enough to pitch to Sony Pictures US, and invited participants to submit a short trailer to sell their idea. Lorne, who received Screen South support for his acclaimed short film The Collector, created a trailer for his feature project Breaking Bollywood, which was submitted in partnership with BAFTA nominated producer Olivier Kaempfer. The UKFC announced this month an exclusive association with the film partnership specialists Film Tree, to develop advertiser-funded film production in the UK. This will aim to facilitate relationships and networking between brand owners and film makers, and is part of the UKFC's ongoing commitment to stimulate new oppotunities for the financing of feature film production in the digital world. Screen South supported film maker and animator John Carnel has recently launched his Animentals animation series, designed to play on your mobile (Nokia or Iphone). Two awards of up to £10000 each are being made available by the The Pears Film Fund as part of the 2010 UK Jewish Film Festival. Our View is a steering group that will sit at the heart of Accentuate, the 2012 Legacy project for the South East of England. Led by Screen South, Accentuate is inspired by the Paralympic movement and aims to create a cultural shift in 1000 days by celebrating talent and recognising achievement. We are seeking a PROJECT MANAGER who is highly skilled in supporting disabled people to coordinate the activities and information flow across “Our View”, as well as five CORE ADVISORY MEMBERS to act as expert and inspiring advocates for the group and programme.
