Review of In Conversation with Tristan Loraine
10th December

Budding film makers and those already in the industry but not getting anywhere very fast got a taste last night of what a “can do attitude” can bring to you. Tristan Loraine, a former British Airways airline captain who due to ill-health met that famous crossroads in life and changed career by retraining at the National Film and Television School, demonstrated just what can be achieved by “thinking out of the box” - a constant phrase he used. In late 2006 he set up multi award winning Fact Not Fiction Films and in a short space of time has travelled very far.

So what was the real difference? Well the values were different and dare I say, the approach seemed sincere. Tristan talked about how he treats his actors, his team and how he wins commercial support for films and documentaries which benefit from their ability to be independent in their treatment.

He talked about his partner and her contribution to the marketing and it was also deeply gratifying to hear him talk about how he breaks the gender mould and creates strong female roles and leads for his films, as he did for instance in 31 North 62 East, released earlier this year.

His passion was evident and contagious and he and his team are rising stars to be watched.

Look out for Shadows From The Sky supported by the UK Film Council (Screen South) and described as “a conspiracy thriller feature based on fact which uncovers aviation's biggest cover-up. The film is in the genre of the Constant Gardener, Erin Brokovich and The Insider”.

Fact Not Fiction Films won the Best Small Business Award for West

Sussex in 2009 and last night we learnt why that award was justly deserved.
