The People’s Millions Year 4

Improving the life of local

communities

We want to fund projects that help

communities to transform or enjoy their

environment. That means buildings,

amenities, public and green spaces and the

natural environment.

We will give priority to local environment

projects that also:

get more people involved in the local

●●

most in need

help people in the community who are

●●

are original and innovative.

Who can enter?

You can apply for a one-year grant of up

to £50,000 (plus VAT) if you are a:

voluntary or community group

●●

local authority

●●

school

●●

health body

●●

Your entry must be for a project that will

help transform your local environment

and make your community a better place

to live, or provide opportunities to enjoy

the local environment or amenities.

The launch, voting and announcement of

the winners will take place exclusively

during ITV regional news programmes.

The application deadline this year is

12 noon on Thursday 15 May 2008.

On 29 October 2008, the Big Lottery

Fund will announce a shortlist of

projects and from Monday 24 to

Friday 28 November 2008 viewers can

vote for the projects they think should

be funded in their region.

Winners will be announced throughout

the week, with a final award in each TV

region to the runner up that scored the

highest number of votes.

In 2005 the Big Lottery Fund teamed up

with ITV to launch The People’s Millions,

allowing ITV viewers across the UK to vote

for projects in their community to win

cash from the National Lottery. Since then

a total of 229 awards and £13.6 million

has been given out to projects around the

UK, including skate parks, sensory play

areas, woodlands regeneration and even

sound sculptures.

Every year we have many entries to

this exciting programme. Most of them

are from groups that have not applied to

us before.

This year, 90 awards of £50,000 will be

available across the country.
