SEE Documentary Film Festival
Friday 19th of February
Organised by Back2Back Productions Ltd. and supported by Screen South, Brighton's SEE Documentary Film Festival takes place this week end! As ever, this year's event will showcase and celebrate the work of some of the UK’s most respected documentary film makers with screenings, seminars and special events. SEE 2010 also continues to provide a platform for a collection of the best student films from the region.
The festival opens with an evening event with celebrated documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux, in association with BAFTA and Screen South.
Commenting on his participation, Louis said: “I feel very flattered to have been asked to be part of the SEE festival. I'm looking forward to meeting some talented filmmakers, young and old, and immersing myself in the friendly and informed culture that is the world of documentaries.”
The event takes place at the Corn Exchange on Friday 19th February. Tickets are on sale at the Corn Exchange/Brighton Dome box office http://www.brightondome.org/
SEE founder and MD of Back2Back, David Notman-Watt said of the upcoming festival, “SEE is now an established event in the broadcast calendar, attracting a wide range of industry players, up and coming talent and members of the public. We aspire to create an unprecedented opportunity for knowledge transfer between industry experts and up and coming filmmakers.
“The festival is also important for Brighton and the surrounding areas where there is a thriving filmmaking community that deserves to be celebrated and supported. I am delighted that at a time when the industry has suffered in the economic downturn that our sponsors and participants are responsive to and supportive of the event.”
Another first for SEE will be the world premiere of ‘Dom Joly In Search of Tintin’ commissioned for Channel 4 and produced by Back2Back. This documentary looks at the success of the comic books and follows Dom as he visits locations featured in the Tintin series.
Simon Shaps (ex ITV Director of Television) will be holding a Q&A with internet sensation Lauren Luke.
SEE also features talks, screenings and master classes from festival patron Nick Broomfield as well as Daisy Asquith, Jonathan Meades, Penny Woolcock, Marc Francis and Marc Isaacs. One of several screenings to look out for this year will be Against The Tide, an interactive documentary project produced by Earth Stock Films with support from Screen South and the UK Film Council's Digital Film Archive Fund. Against The Tide features works by Daisy Asquith, Kat Mansoor, Danny Weinstein and Wilma de Jong. Both up and coming and experienced film makers will be offered the opportunity to ask questions about their experiences of documentary production.
SEE will also hold a series of seminars with leading broadcasters and other organisations including Shooting People, Channel 4 and Al Jazeera. ITV’s Jo Clinton-Davies will talk about the future of documentaries with commercial television. Other experts from across the industry will share information on the legalities of making documentaries, distribution, and how to pitch your documentary.
SEE Festival has been enabled by Screen South and the RIFE (Regional Investment Fund for England) lottery funding programme.
